Ambivalente is invented by Walter Joris, and described in his magical book 100 Strategic Games for Pen and Paper.

Like for most games in the book the rules are very simple, with players taking turn placing units to neutralise opposing units.

However the dual capture rules, along with clever special rules for the corners, makes for a surprisingly deep and sharp game. One of our favourites in the book!
